The California Quake of the Independent Women’s Football League defeated the SoCal Breakers, 5-0, on Saturday at Dana Hills High School. <\/p>\n
“This new rivalry of two southern California based teams provided all of the fans in attendance with a defensive spectacle they won’t soon forget,” wrote Quake owner, Catherine Vivo on the teams website. <\/p>\n
The Quake defense set the tone early when Michelle Friesen intercepted Breaker quarterback, Lori Schnaider. Also in the first quarter, Quake punter Kara Williams pinned the Breakers on their own four-yard line. Two plays later, Angela Mims and her teammates tackled Vanessa Santillian in the endzone, and the Quake took a 2-0 lead with the safety. A Sarah Oliver 28-yard field goal was the rest of the scoring on the night.<\/p>\n
The Quake defense would end up forcing three fumbles, 3 interceptions and managed to keep the Breaker offense from getting inside the Quake 25-yard line. Here are some of the statistical highlights from the game:<\/p>\n
