{"id":6098,"date":"2019-08-05T12:27:20","date_gmt":"2019-08-05T19:27:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/sports\/long-beach-sprint-nationals-race-is-officially-back-on"},"modified":"2019-08-05T12:27:20","modified_gmt":"2019-08-05T19:27:20","slug":"long-beach-sprint-nationals-race-is-officially-back-on","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/sports\/news\/long-beach-sprint-nationals-race-is-officially-back-on","title":{"rendered":"Long Beach Sprint Nationals race is officially back on"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After being all-but cancelled, the 2019 ARP Long beach Sprint Nationals race is officially back on after organizers and the city tied up some late <a href=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/news\/after-permit-denial-sprint-nationals-get-second-chance-summer-race\">public safety matters<\/a>, officials said.<\/p>\n<p>Set for Aug. 17 and 18 at Marine Stadium, the 70-year-old race will continue after all, according to organizer Ross Wallach and Long Beach Special Events Director Tasha Day.<\/p>\n<p>The death in last year\u2019s event of 36-year-old driver Greg Duff prompted safety officials from the city to take a harder look at the race. After initially being denied a permit for the 2019 race, Wallach was given another chance to comply with a new set of regulations and stipulations that included raising the amount of insurance carried by the race to a $10 million policy, up from the $1 million policy paid for in previous years by the Southern California Speedboat Club, which puts on the race.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve complied with everything and the race will finally, definitely go on,\u201d said Wallach.<\/p>\n<p>Because of the late finalization of the agreement, tickets for the two-day race will be available at the gate only. Admission is $20 for adults, $10 for kids and free for children under 5 years old. Parking is $20. For RV parking, call Wallach at 310-318-4012.
