{"id":6112,"date":"2019-08-18T09:41:38","date_gmt":"2019-08-18T16:41:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/sports\/?p=50000000125"},"modified":"2019-08-18T10:49:37","modified_gmt":"2019-08-18T17:49:37","slug":"in-pictures-and-video-the-70-year-old-race-almost-didnt-happen-long-beach-sprint-nationals-arp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/sports\/in-pictures-and-video-the-70-year-old-race-almost-didnt-happen-long-beach-sprint-nationals-arp","title":{"rendered":"IN PICTURES: The 70-year-old boat race that almost didn&#8217;t happen"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Engines roared Saturday during day one of the 2019 ARP Long Beach Sprint Nationals at Marine Stadium, the 70-year-old race that almost didn&#8217;t happen after <a href=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/news\/long-beach-sprint-nationals-race-is-officially-back-on\">a scuffle with the city of Long Beach over permits<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Race officials said that the venue was at capacity Saturday as fans huddled under pop-up tents for shade while watching multiple classes of boats compete.<\/p>\n<p>Fans also got a close-up look at boats on display while sipping and eating libations provided by vendors.
