11:18am | <\/strong>The No. 13 state-ranked Long Beach City College women’s basketball team lost its second straight contest, falling 52-44 to No. 12 state-ranked Cerritos College on Wednesday night at the LBCC Hall of Champions Gym.<\/span><\/p>\n

The loss dropped the Vikings to 10-4 overall and 2-3 in the South Coast Conference, while Cerritos moved to 14-4 and 4-1 in the SCC.<\/span><\/p>\n

Despite a poor shooting night (16 of 57, 28 percent) and being outrebounded 64-40, the Vikings held a 32-29 lead with 12:00 to go in the second half. But the Falcons rallied with a 11-0 run to go ahead 40-32. Sophomore guard Keshonda Moore finally broke the string with a layup with 4:45 remaining.<\/span><\/p>\n

Following a layup by Cerritos’ Regina English, Moore went on to score the next five points, including a three-pointer that got LBCC within three points with 3:25 to go. A layup by freshman Tiffany Taylor cut the Falcons’ lead to just one point at 42-41 at the 3:06 mark, but the Vikings would not get any closer.<\/span><\/p>\n

Cerritos pulled down 28 offensive rebounds and converted those into 26 second-chance points. The Falcons actually shot worse than the Vikings, making 17 of 63 (27 percent) field goals for the game.<\/span><\/p>\n

Moore led Long Beach with 15 points and five steals. Freshman Joanna Jaramillo had seven points and freshman Kaaron King posted six points and a team-best seven rebounds.<\/span><\/p>\n

English (13 points, 12 rebounds) and Talor Hixon (12 points, 11 rebounds) both totaled double-doubles in the win for Cerritos.<\/span><\/p>\n
