The Moore League championship might be on the line tonight at Wilson as the Bruins host Millikan in a meeting of the top teams in the league. Millikan is 6-0-1 (that\u2019s no losses and one tie) while Wilson is 7-1-0, meaning a Bruin win would give them a chance to pull even.<\/p>\n
The defending league champion Rams beat Wilson earlier this year in one of those games that seemed to inspire the losing team. Since then, the Bruins have outscored opponents 48-14, with junior Emma Shiffer scoring 11 goals in those 16 games.<\/p>\n
Millikan, meanwhile, has yet to lose a league game and is coming off its first league title since 1991. A win would give the Rams a good shot at the consecutive league titles for the first time since 1985-86.<\/p>\n
The game will be at Wilson at 6:30 p.m., and we\u2019re expecting it to be a good one.<\/p>\n
Basketball<\/strong><\/p>\n Last week was an exciting one for Long Beach basketball, with Poly proving itself the best team in the league in both boys\u2019 and girls\u2019 hoops.<\/p>\n The Jackrabbits haven\u2019t lost either league title in the last decade, but the action has been better this year. Poly\u2019s boys beat Millikan by seven as they pulled away late, coming back with a vengeance after Millikan briefly took a one-point lead with 2:33 left in the game.<\/p>\n The Poly girls? They\u2019re a juggernaut. They faced the Millikan girls on Friday in a meeting of the last two undefeated teams in the league and the Jackrabbits handed the 16-0 Rams a 70-29 defeat.<\/p>\n There is a big game on Friday, as the Millikan boys\u2019 and girls\u2019 teams host Compton. The boys\u2019 game is a battle between the second and third-place teams, with the Rams trying to fight their way back to a second-round game against Poly without picking up another loss in the league.<\/p>\n Football Stars Shine<\/strong><\/p>\n It was a big weekend for Poly football fans, as three Jackrabbit alums played in the NFC and AFC championship games. Jurrell Casey and Jayon Brown\u2019s Titans lost to the Chiefs while Marcedes Lewis\u2019 Packers lost to the 49ers.<\/p>\n The football season isn\u2019t quite over for the local boys.
