Both Long Beach Poly and Lakewood High’s football teams moved up one spot in the newly-released PAC-5 Division polls today, after earning victories in their first games of the season over the weekend.<\/p>\n
Formerly #2 Mater Dei fell in a 14-10 loss to Carson and dropped to #10, opening room for Poly to move into #3 and Lakewood into the #4 position. Poly held off a late rally to defeated Bakersfield 42-18 while Lakewood route Locke by a 49-0 score.<\/p>\n
The final Moore League team to get a mention in the polls is none other than the Compton Tarbabes, who didn’t make the Top Ten but received votes after defeating Monte Vista by a 34-14 score. The Wilson Bruins received votes last week but were not mentioned in this week’s poll after a 28-26 win over Huntington Park.<\/p>\n
It was nearly a sweep for all Moore League teams in the opening week, with the new-look Jordan Panthers handing freshman coach Thomas Barnes his first win, 32-20 over Jordan L.A. The Millikan Rams and Cabrillo Jaguars were the only Moore League teams to lose over the weekend, as the Rams dropped a 48-22 loss to the high-octane attack of Gahr and Cabrillo fell to Lincoln, 61-14.<\/p>\n
