Two Poly High School students were arrested Thursday for bringing weapons to campus, the Long Beach Unified School District said this afternoon.

One student had a BB gun while another had a knife, according to an email sent to parents by Principal William Salas just after 3:30 p.m. Both weapons were “immediately recovered by Poly staff,” he said.

“This incident is a reminder to speak to your child about the importance of making positive choices and that their actions and words have consequences,” Salas wrote, adding: “If you see something, say something.”

School safety officers detained the two male students, who are 18 and 15 years old, until Long Beach police arrived just after 1 p.m., according to police department spokesperson Eric Stachura.
