After a tumultuous attempt at procuring a mini-fleet of electric, zero-emission buses (ZEBs), which ultimately resulted in failure, Long Beach Transit (LBT) has restarted the Request for Proposal process to build 10 ZEBs.
The last two "Fare Forums" are being held this week by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority during their regular monthly meetings spread throughout Los Angeles County. The forums are an opportunity for the public to share their opinion on the two proposed fare restructuring options that were announced in January and could go into effect as soon as September 1.
After previous delays with production and federal testing, the bus manufacturer set to provide Long Beach Transit (LBT) with its electric bus fleet, the U.S. subsidiary of Chinese company BYD, could be facing new problems. Not only is the company that BYD hired to make its battery's chargers embroiled in a lawsuit with investors for being unable to manufacture the technology in time, but the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) is considering revoking BYD's funding for electric-bus procurement.
