One of Long Beach’s iconic landmarks will soon have a new home.
Since 2018, the World Famous VIP Records sign has sat in storage after the record store — an iconic hip-hop destination — was forced to move around the corner.

On Tuesday, the Long Beach City Council approved funds to repair the sign and reinstall it at a soon-to-come “VIP Records Park” at a vacant, city-owned lot across the street from the store’s original location.

The shop helped launch the careers of Snoop Dogg, the late Nate Dogg and Warren G in the late ’80s and ’90s.
Snoop paid homage to the shop’s sign in his “Who Am I? (What’s My Name)” music video while dancing on the store’s roof.
Next Thursday, VIP Records will celebrate its 47th birthday. Read more about its legacy in our story on the shop’s owner, Kelvin Anderson, here.
