Gallery seeks local submissions for upcoming exhibition exploring pop surrealism
The Long Beach Creative Group/Rod Briggs Gallery is seeking artist submissions to its upcoming exhibition exploring pop-surrealist art.
The “Pop-Surrealism” exhibition is open to any artist in Orange County or Los Angeles County and to artists who attend or are alumni of Cal State Long Beach and Long Beach City College. The deadline to submit is March 22.
The art, which must be no larger than 48 inches in any direction, including frame, must be original works created in the last five years that illustrate pop-surrealist style, a vibrant genre of art developed in the 1960s that features a wide range of pop-culture influences. Accepted mediums include painting, drawing, printmaking, wall-mount sculpture, sculpture, digital art, photographs, toys and mixed media.
Because pop-surrealism includes a broad range of artistic expression, the gallery has developed six categories under which artists may submit.
These include spooky, fantasy, whimsical, comics, tiki culture, and “graffiti, skateboarding and hot rods.” The gallery suggests watching this video for a primer on pop-surrealism if artists aren’t familiar with the style or history.
The exhibition is juried, and the winning submissions will be judged by artists Francisco Gutierrez, Mick Victor and a third artist that has yet to be announced.
Submissions cost $16. Click here for more information and to submit.
The LBCG/Rod Briggs Gallery is at 2221 E. Broadway.
