Pastry chain Le Macaron is now open in Belmont Shore serving up famed French confections as well as coffee, gelato, chocolates and more.

The shop, located next to Candified, has been open for a few weeks, but will have a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening on Saturday, March 2 at 1 p.m.

The brand’s handmade macaron shells, which draw heavily on the famed Chef Pierre Hermé school of thought, are an 80% almond flour to 20% meringue (sweet, whipped egg whites) ratio.

In between the two shells, macarons usually have a ganache (ga-nosh), or chocolate and cream mixture, fruity jam or cream.

It’s a dessert that appeals to those with dietary restrictions like a gluten-free diet because the ingredients used don’t contain gluten, and some flavors, like the mango jam and key lime-strawberry, are dairy-free.

The brand’s macaron menu ranges from classic flavors like Belgian chocolate and salted caramel to more unique flavors like lavender white chocolate and rose and rotates flavors seasonally.

Coffee and other pastries, like lemon bars and eclairs, are also available. The shop also plans to add French gelato to their store.

Le Macaron is at 5332 Second Street.
