Youngsters and the young at heart can meet Santa aboard the Queen Mary for free when he visits the historic ocean liner Tuesday, Dec. 5.

The public will be welcomed aboard the ship from 3 to 7 p.m. for a community day that will include holiday activities and opportunities to tour the ship.

Santa meet-and-greets are scheduled for 4:15 p.m., 5:15 p.m. and 6:15 p.m. in the Queen’s Salon, which will also host letter writing to Santa; story time with the captain at 4:45 p.m., 5:45 p.m., 6:45 p.m. and cookie decorating at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m..

In the Royal Salon, children can enjoy arts and crafts at 3 p.m., 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. as well as game time with Santa’s elves at 4:30 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

Visitors also will be able to take self-guided tours through several of the ship’s various areas, including the Churchill exhibit, the Engine Room, the Ship Model Gallery, The Shipyard, The Cunard Story and the Wheelhouse. Guided tours, food and drinks at restaurants and bars, and retail shops will be open and available at regular price.

This is the second community day aboard the ship since it was reopened by the city after the liner was closed to the public for three years. The public was welcomed aboard for free in June when much of the ship remained closed.

Like in June, parking will be complimentary for the event, according to a ship spokesperson.
