Beach Streets, Long Beach’s well-attended open streets event, is coming to the Westside for the first time in its decade-long history.
City officials say this year’s event will close down stretches of Willow Street and Santa Fe Avenue on Saturday, May 10 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., allowing bicyclists and pedestrians to roam freely.
The event will include food trucks, a kid zone, live music and more, according to the city.

“We are thrilled to host this year’s Beach Streets event, which every year opens our streets for people to explore the city’s unique neighborhoods and support local businesses,” 7th District City Councilmember Roberto Uranga said in a statement.
In past years, the annual one-day event has been held in Cambodia Town, Uptown, Zaferia, Wrigley, Willmore, East Long Beach and Downtown.
Last year’s event took place in North Long Beach, coinciding with the city’s annual Veterans Day celebration.
“Beach Streets is not just about bringing us all together to promote sustainable and healthy living — it’s about uplifting our beautiful neighborhoods and celebrating our diverse and vibrant community,” Mayor Rex Richardson said in a statement.
This will be the ninth event in Beach Streets’ history, which dates back to 2015. The pandemic caused the cancellation of the event in 2020 and 2021.
The city will release a more detailed event route along with more information on entertainment and activities ahead of the event.
