International Cultural Festival at LBCC (Wednesday, Nov. 19)

Long Beach City College is inviting you to “travel the world without leaving campus!”

The International Student Club and Sister Cities of Long Beach are putting on the free event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the quad of the Liberal Arts Campus, 4901 East Carson St.

They promise you’ll get the chance to experience global dancing, live music and drumming, international food cooked up by students in the culinary arts department, crafts, arts and cultural activities. Check out the event flier for more info.

Music to My Eyes art show (Thursday, Nov. 20)

Local nonprofit Creative Class Collective is putting on one of the city’s most creative student art shows — and it’s free.

The concept is fun and simple: “Local high school art students were assigned a song, preferably one they were not too familiar with, and were tasked with painting what the song inspired in them.”

They were handed out randomly, so it could be a kid listening to a classic rock, jazz or classical song for the first time before figuring out what the composition means to them.

We got a peek at their work last year, and it was incredible. There’s no doubt you’ll be inspired by the talent of our local youth if you make the time to check it out.

The exhibit is at the Edison Theater, 213 East Broadway, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. RSVP here.

An enormous, entrancing festival (Friday, Nov. 21 and Saturday, Nov. 22)

I’m going to be real up-front here and admit I’ve never been to a trance festival — but it looks like a surreal experience with no equal, especially when it’s at the Queen Mary.

Insomniac, the giant electronic music events promoter, is bringing its Dreamstate festival back to Long Beach this weekend. Expect tens of thousands of people basking in the lights, music and vibes.

The party will likely continue into the wee hours of Friday and Saturday. A two-day GA ticket is around $250. More info here

Ambitious Record Fair (Saturday, Nov. 22)

Vinyl and beer are a good combo. Ambitious Ales in Bixby Knolls is hosting a record shop and swap event that will include live DJ sets.

It runs from 3 to 8 p.m. at Ambitious Ales, 4019 Atlantic Ave. Try the Central Perk coffee blonde ale while you’re there.

Ha Ha’s at the Hare (Wednesday, Nov. 26)

One of Long Beach’s best new neighborhood bars, The Hare, is hosting a comedy night starting at 7 p.m.

They say the lineup includes acts “from Netflix, BET, Amazon Prime with 5 paid open mic spots available (subject to change).”

The Hare is at 1800 E Broadway. There’s a $10 suggested donation. You can get tickets here.
