Police are investigating two unrelated stabbings Saturday morning that left two people hospitalized.

Officers responded to the first stabbing in the 900 block of East Fourth Street at around 3:41 a.m. There, officers found a man with stab wounds to the upper body and Long Beach Fire Department personnel transported him to a local hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

According to the Long Beach Police Department, the man was involved in a dispute with another man, who then stabbed him.

Although the suspect fled the area before police arrived, police say he later returned to the scene and was taken into custody on suspicion of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon.

Police identified him as 40-year-old Ian William Rattray of Long Beach. His bail was set at $1 million.

Officers were dispatched around 5:30 a.m. to the scene of the second stabbing in the 1400 block of East Broadway Avenue.

Originally, the crime was reported as a battery, but when officers arrived at the scene, they found a man who said he had been stabbed nearby.

He was then transported to a local hospital where he is expected to survive, police said.

No suspect information is known at this time as the man refused to cooperate with police in providing the location of the crime, according to the LBPD.
