9:45am | The 2010 AIDS Walk Long Beach delivered another successful event Saturday hosting both its 5K Walk-a-thon/Pet Walk and 5K/10K Red Ribbon Run. The event raised funds to stop new HIV infections and to support their efforts in the Long Beach community. Since 1989 the event has help raise $2.4 million dollars to over 37 beneficiary agencies in the South Los Angeles County areas of the greater South Bay and  Long Beach.

According to this article in the Press-Telegram: AIDS Walk invests in education, services and prevention of HIV/AIDS throughout the area. “AIDS is still one of those things people are afraid of getting involved with,” said Garry Bowie, Executive Director of the Long Beach AIDS Foundation. “We need to stop thinking it only happens to someone else. There’s a perception that it only happens in the gay community, and that is so untrue.”
