UPDATE| A Lakewood man was arrested Tuesday on DUI charges after he reversed his SUV into a Long Beach barbershop, sending two victims to local hospitals, according to the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD).

According to a preliminary investigation, the Chevy Tahoe, driven by 67-year-old Michael Anthony Digiampaolo, reversed into Suttons Barber Shop at about 11:00AM on Tuesday, February 2, LBPD spokeswoman Marlene Arrona said.

The SUV struck a man sitting outside the shop and a male customer inside the shop, injuring them both. Long Beach paramedics transported both victims to local hospitals, she added. The driver appeared to be uninjured but he was transported to a local hospital for clearance prior to being booked for DUI.

Digiampaolo is being held at Long Beach City Jail with a bail set at $100,000.

PREVIOUSLY: 3 Injured After SUV Backs Into Long Beach Barbershop

2/2/16 at 1:23PM | Three people were injured Tuesday mid-morning when the driver of an SUV backed into a Long Beach barbershop on the Lakewood border, according to the Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD).

The incident happened at about 11:00AM on the 5400 block of Del Amo Boulevard, near Bellflower Boulevard.

A Chevy Tahoe backed into Suttons Barber Shop, located in the middle of a strip mall, injuring three adults, LBFD spokesman Mark Miller said.

Two of the victims were transported to local trauma centers with moderate injuries while the third victim refused transport to a local hospital after being assessed, Miller added.

The driver was not injured and was being questioned by Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) officers. The SUV apparently took out the front wall, broke glass windows and was still inside the building Tuesday afternoon, Miller said.

Building safety experts also responded to the incident to check the structural integrity of the building, according to Miller, who described the building as currently “not usable,” meaning continuation of business was not possible on Tuesday, given the damage.
