Police will increase their presence across Long Beach after a recent string of armed robberies involving commercial businesses in a four-hour span on Jan. 2, officials said.
The first robbery happened around 12:55 a.m. on the 4000 block of Atlantic Avenue in North Long Beach near the Virginia Country Club, police said. Four more followed that same morning, with the last one occurring about four hours later in East Long Beach near Cal State Long Beach, according to police, who provided dates and general locations:
- 4000 block of Atlantic Avenue at approximately 12:55 a.m. near the Virginia Country Club.
- 4200 block of Long Beach Boulevard at approximately 1:03 a.m. near the Virginia Country Club.
- 2600 block of Pacific Avenue at approximately 1:36 a.m. near Veterans Park.
- 200 block of West Willow Street at approximately 1:39 a.m. near Veterans Park.
- 1700 block of Bellflower Boulevard at approximately 4:43 a.m. near Cal State Long Beach.
“These incidents generally occurred in the early morning hours and involved a male adult suspect armed with a handgun entering a business, robbing it at gunpoint, and taking varying amounts of money from the respective business,” Long Beach Police Department spokesperson Allison Gallagher said. “Due to the similar circumstances involved, detectives believe that the incidents may be related, however, the investigation is still ongoing.”
According to LBPD, no injuries were reported during any of the robberies.
Detectives are still investigating the crimes.
