Long Beach is gearing up for a big election on Tuesday night.  Councilmember Dee Andrews is facing a re-election challenge from businessman Ahmed Saafir in the 6th District Council race.  Andrews replaced then Assemblymember and now Congresswoman Laura Richardson in a special election.  He is now running for a full term.

There are also two big races for the Long Beach Unified School Board.  Incumbents Jon Meyer and Felton Williams are both facing competitive campaigns.  Williams is facing a tough challenge from elementary school teacher Rosa Diaz, and Meyer is running against former LBUSD administrator Karen Thomas Hilburn and attorney Paul Crost.  In the Meyer race, if no candidate receives more than 50%, there will be a run-off in June.
