11:00am | Yesterday evening at approximately 5:00pm, Long Beach Police responded to an injury traffic collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian at 7th Street and Pacific Avenue, which later resulted in the death of the pedestrian.

When officers arrived, they discovered that a 48-year-old male Long Beach resident was driving his red 1992 Toyota Celica westbound on 7th Street in the number one lane. As the vehicle entered the north/south crosswalk on the east side of 7th Street on a green light, it struck 84-year-old Vladimir Godin of Long Beach, who was walking southbound in the crosswalk.

The driver of the Toyota immediately stopped his vehicle to render aid to the pedestrian. Long Beach Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and transported Victim Godin to a local hospital with serious injuries. The victim was pronounced deceased at the hospital later that night.

The vehicle was impounded and the driver may be facing charges; however, the investigation remains ongoing.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Long Beach Police Accident Investigations Detective David Lauro at (562) 570-7355.
