On Friday night, the Long Beach Police Department arrested two teenage boys for auto burglary thanks to a 911 call from a witness who reported the crime.

At approximately 10PM, LBPD received a call regarding an auto burglary that had taken place in a parking lot in the 700 block of Ocean Blvd., according to police. The reporting party, who called from a high-rise building overlooking the area, gave descriptions of the suspects as well as the direction they were heading and where they were seen placing items stolen from the vehicle.

Information was aired over police radio and a Marine Patrol Officer stopped and detained two male subjects that were on foot near Linden Ave. and Shoreline Dr. that matched the suspect descriptions provided. The stolen items were location nearby and returned to their rightful owner. The two suspects, ages 14 and 15, were arrested for auto burglary by South Division patrol officers.

“This is a perfect example of our community working with us to make Long Beach a safer place for everyone,” said Nancy Pratt with LBPD. “This resident didn’t hesitate to pick-up the phone and dial 9-1-1, and as a result, two thieves were removed from the street.”

LBPD continues to encourage residents to immediately report any suspicious person or activity by dialing 9-1-1.
