Tonight in Long Beach, like in much of the country, neighbors throughout the city will be getting together as part of National Night Out, an annual campaign aimed at building communities and promoting partnerships with law enforcement.

The Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) has received about 40 invitations to stop by and greet community members at NNO events throughout the city, according to LBPD spokeswoman Nancy Pratt.

While most NNO events are hosted at homes, Pratt said some of the gatherings are scheduled to take place at public places, including:

  • Pan-American Park
  • Bixby Park
  • Veterans Park
  • Admiral Kidd Park

“NNO is a cohesive effort to promote involvement in crime prevention activities, police-community partnerships, neighborhood camaraderie and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back,” read a post credited to Jose Vasquez of the LBPD on the private social network for neighborhoods, Nextdoor.com.
