Long Beach officials announced a second police officer has tested positive for COVID-19. The officer is in the investigations bureau and is in stable condition and recovering at home, officials said.
Officials only announce the case numbers from first responders and employees who have daily interactions with members of the public.
Officials also announced the death of another nursing home resident in the city, bringing the total fatalities citywide to 21. All of the people who died had underlying health conditions. A majority of the fatalities are associated with long-term care facilities, prompting calls for transparency from an advocacy group.
In total, officials reported 449 positive results citywide, up from 419 on Friday. Of the total, 122 are at long-term care facilities.
The city will likely see an increase in positive cases as testing ramps up. On Saturday three new testing sites opened throughout the city and will have the capacity to test about 500 people each day across all four of its testing sites.
The city’s health department has also newly revamped its COVID-19 website, which now includes an interactive data dashboard and more easily accessible information in Spanish and Khmer.
