Twenty people at a time will strap in and pull a 153-foot FedEx 727 down the tarmac at the Long Beach Airport this Saturday, August 16.

Is this FedEx’s long-term plan for battling gas prices?

Not quite, but participants will be performing a public service all the same, as the 2nd Annual Plane Pull will raise money for Special Olympics Southern California.  Teams of twenty will pull against each other from opposite ends for ultimate bragging rights, and donate to a great cause in the process.  Click here to check out lbpostsports.com coverage of the 2008 Special Olympics held at Long Beach State.

“Last year’s event raised $16,000 and this year’s goal is to more than double that to $35,000,” said Bill Shumard, President and CEO of Special Olympics Southern California, and former Long Beach State Athletic Director

Teams of twenty must raise a tax-deductible minimum of $1,000, while individual competitors are welcome to enter at $50 per person.  Sign-up and find more information at socalplanepull.com.

Registration will begin at 8:45am and competition takes off at 10:00am.
