Over the weekend, American Airlines quietly added one daily, nonstop flight from Long Beach Airport to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport beginning April.

“This is more good news for Long Beach Airport and our connectivity to the rest of the nation,” airport spokesperson Kate Kuykendall said. “We’re very happy that American Airlines has established a daily nonstop to their largest hub.”

American operates three of the airport’s 53 daily flight slots with service to Phoenix. The airline was temporarily allocated a fourth slot not being utilized by Delta Air Lines, which is what will be used to fly the Dallas route from April to September. Kuykendall said it is unclear what will become of the temporary slot after that.

The news comes after weeks of route announcements from the various airlines operating out of Long Beach. In all, nine new daily flights have been unveiled over the last month, all set to begin in early 2021.

In November, Southwest announced daily service to Honolulu starting in March, directly competing with Hawaiian Airlines, which has been the only service to the islands from Long Beach since 2018.

Earlier this month, Hawaiian Airlines announced daily nonstop service from Long Beach to Maui. One week later, Southwest dropped its most significant announcement with seven new nonstop, daily flights to Chicago Midway, Dallas Love Field, Houston Hobby, Reno and St. Louis beginning in the spring.
