5:27pm | On Wednesday, September 14, 2011, at approximately 10:41 p.m., an officer on patrol in the area of 9th Street and Walnut Avenue was flagged down by residents and directed to a man lying on the sidewalk who was suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body.
 
The preliminary investigation revealed that shots had been heard in the area  shortly before, and paramedics from the Long Beach Fire Department transported the man to a local hospital where he was listed in critical condition.
 
On Saturday, September 17, 2011, at 12:15 a.m., the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. He has been identified as Andre Swafford, a 28-year-old resident of Long Beach.
 
There is no suspect information at this time, and the incident is being investigated as gang-related.
