The City of Long Beach is inviting the community to its annual 9/11 Memorial Ceremony, set for this Sunday at 9:00AM at Fire Station 8 in Belmont Shore.

The ceremony offers Long Beachers a chance to remember those who perished during the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

“It is extremely important that we remember and pay tribute to the heroic public servants who gave their lives in the service of others,” said Mayor Robert Garcia in a statement.

According to a release, Fire Chief Michael DuRee and Police Chief Robert Luna will adorn the Fire Station with a memorial wreath, and Garcia will call for a moment of silence at 9:11AM, in honor of the public servants and civilians who died. Second Street will be closed to traffic and a large piece of the World Trade Center will sit in front of the station, remaining on display throughout the day.

“As we mark the 15th Anniversary of this tragic day in American history, let us never forget those who lost their life on September 11, 2001, in New York, Washington, DC, and Pennsylvania,” said Fire Chief Mike DuRee in a statement. “We stand united as we honor their memory and pay tribute to their sacrifice.”

“This is an opportunity for us to stand together as a community and remember all those who lost their lives 15 years ago,” said Police Chief Robert Luna in a statement. “May we never forget.”
