For a high school that provides a dynamic and innovative education in Long Beach, this April’s Spring musical is set to reflect a unique curriculum. Anything Goes is a popular musical created by Guy Bolton, PG Wodehouse, Howard Lindsay and Russell Crouse, with music and lyrics by the famous Cole Porter. Over 50 students from downtown Long Beach’s Renaissance High School for the Arts will perform Anything Goes in a collaboration among drama, dance and music departments at the Long Beach Performing Arts Center’s Center Theater on April 4 and 5, 2009.
As if that wasn’t enough, the collaboration extends to the high school’s orchestra, which will perform all aspects of Anything Goes’ musical score. According to a press release distributed by Activities Director, Nicole Lopez, “students will work on every aspect of the show production – from set design and stagecraft, sound and lighting and props, to costume design and makeup, program design and videography.”
Long Beach Renaissance High School for the Arts is the visual and performing arts high school for the Long Beach Unified School District. The school’s curriculum integrates arts, academics and technology with equity of access for promising young performers and artists. Renaissance has no attendance boundary, allowing students from all areas in and around Long Beach to attend if they so wish. Eligible students also receive pre-professional training by a staff of exemplary artist-teachers and professional guest teachers.
Anything Goes will run on April 4 and 5 at the Center Theater at Long Beach Performing Arts Center, 300 E. Ocean Blvd., Long Beach. Tickets may be obtained through Ticketmaster at www.ticketmaster.com.
