nasaexhibitLong Beach’s Aquarium of the Pacific received a $331,000 NASA grant to oversee the creation of a new multi-institution exhibit-based program that takes visitors on a journey around the Earth.

The program, called Our Instrumented Earth, will be created in collaboration with the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry and NASA’s Goddard Visitors Center in Maryland, which will also debut the exhibit in summer 2013.

feature a six-foot diameter globe that combines compelling NASA satellite images with other Earth monitoring systems to stimulate interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). The collaborative project targets underserved youth and promotes STEM learning in casual educational environments.

“The program will focus on how satellites and other observing systems contribute to our understanding of how Earth is changing and what those changes may mean to humans,” said Dr. Jerry R. Schubel, Aquarium of the Pacific president.
