Long Beach police officers shot and injured an armed, male suspect who fled after he was pulled over during a routine traffic stop yesterday afternoon at the corner of Studebaker and 2nd Street. The suspect’s handgun was retrieved at the scene. No officers were injured.
The suspect exited his vehicle as it was stopped at the intersection and ran into southbound traffic on Studebaker, when the shooting ocurred. He was transported to a local hospital and is receiving treatment for his injuries.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office will conduct an independent investigation, as is procedure with all officer-involved shootings.
Detectives believe that drivers in nearby vehicles may have witnessed the incident and are asked to call Homicide Detectives Bryan McMahon or Patrick O’Dowd at 562.570.7244.
