9:53pm Wednesday | Two Borders locations in Long Beach will close as the bookstore giant seeks to reorganize after recently filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Hundreds of Borders stores across the country will be closing by the end of this April, according to a press release from the company.

One location is at 2110 Bellflower Blvd. in the Los Altos Market Center. It occupies one of the largest units in the shopping center that includes Sears and 24 Hour Fitness among other businesses and eateries.

The second is at 101 South Pine Avenue in the much-maligned Pike shopping center at Rainbow Harbor. The Pike has lost a handful of large business in the past twelve months that includes Long Beach Clothing Company and the nightclub V20.

The dining and gaming location Gameworks went through a similar national reorganization last year but that Pike location was replaced by a similarly-themed restaurant in the Kitchen Den Bar. The center has also seen success with the opening of a Hooters recently.

Borders says that the list is not final and could change. We will report if any news indicates that the two Long Beach locations will ultimately remain where they are.
