Long Beach lifeguards and animal care personnel rescued a barn owl that entangled itself in a fishing line under a bridge over the San Gabriel River on Thursday morning, officials said.
On Thursday, October 27 at 9:30AM, Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) lifeguards and staff with Long Beach Animal Care Services worked to rescue the barn owl off the Westminster bridge, located over the San Gabriel River, according to LBFD officials.
“The owl had been caught in a fishing line and was unable to free herself without assistance,” officials stated. “The owl was transported to Long Beach Animal Hospital where the fishing line was removed from its right wing.”
Authorities said the owl is doing well and receiving additional care at the pet hospital.
