After taking last month off (congrats to Michael Clements and his lovely bride Brooke!), Beer & Politics is back and ready to drink and debate!

This month, the group will host an open discussion about one of Long Beach’s current hot topics: the 14th Street skate park.  Speakers will include former 7th District Councilmember Mike Donelon and Long Beach Director of Community Development Dennis Thys.  The event will be held next Tuesday, June 30th at 7:00pm at Gallagher’s on Broadway.  From today’s press release:

Recently, Senator Tom Coburn (Oklahoma) called the 14th St park one of the top 100 worst examples of waste as it does not add jobs or improve infrastructure. Proponents of the park say that it does create jobs, but more importantly, it improves urban blight and helps keep kids off the streets by giving them something recreational and safe to do. They also say it met all the requirements HUD needed for approval.

Do you agree with Senator Coburn?  Think the skate park is a great way to help inner-city youth?  Great, join the discussion and question our guests as to the merits of the park.  Make your voice heard.   Regardless, come on out and join us for a beer!
