Belmont Shore residents will have another opportunity to weigh in on proposed gateway signage at a community forum scheduled for Tuesday to gather input on the design of new signs that will greet visitors to the Second Street corridor.

The Belmont Shore Parking and Business Improvement Area Advisory Commission has been working on a design for the proposed signs for months and commissioners believe they’re close to a final version. But before moving forward with the installation, the commission is hosting a special meeting on Dec. 13 at 6:30 p.m. at Fire Station 8 on Second Street.

The commission moved forward with a redesign after one of the current termite-riddled “Belmont Shore Welcomes You” signs was removed after being struck by a car. The new proposed design is modeled after historic lamp posts that can be found in Belmont Heights.

Blue, backlit lettering reading “Welcome to Belmont Shore” and a red flag top the design, which resembles signage found at the Redondo Beach pier.

The two new Belmont Shore signs would be installed at either end of Second Street with one at the intersection of Second Street and Bay Shore Avenue and the other at Second Street and Livingston.

Commissioners have estimated the cost of each at about $40,000, a price that would be paid by parking meter revenue generated within Belmont Shore.

The commission, which generally doesn’t meet in December because of the holidays, is seeking more consensus on the sign designs before it moves forward. It had previously said it was targeting early 2023 for the potential installation.

Long Beach Fire Station 8 is at 5365 Second Street.
