A bicyclist was hospitalized in critical condition after she was struck by a vehicle on Pacific Coast Highway near Long Beach City College Monday night, authorities said.

Police said the crash happened around 9:45 p.m. on PCH near Walnut Avenue. The woman was riding her bicycle in the eastbound lanes of traffic when she crossed over to the opposite lanes and was struck by a driver who was traveling westbound, police said.

Long Beach Fire Department personnel transported her to a local hospital in critical but stable condition, according to police. Police described the bicyclist only as a female adult.

The vehicle’s driver meanwhile remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, according to the Long Beach Police Department. Investigators do not believe that impaired driving or distracted driving were a factor in the crash, the LBPD said.
