With the idea of a massive expansion that would make Miller Children’s Hospital one of the nation’s biggest becoming more of a reality every day, the hospital and its Building For Children campaign recently announced a $750,000 grant from the Ahmanson Foundation that will go towards construction of a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
The grant was given by the Los Angeles-based foundation to Long Beach’s Memorial Medical Center, which supports the Miller Children’s Hospital. The funding will contribute to Miller’s planned 124,000-sq. foot inpatient pavilion, currently under construction. The Building For Children fundraising campaign aimed to raise $24 million for construction by December of 2008, and already the total stands at $20.9 million.

“Thanks to the Ahmanson Foundation, Miller Children’s Hospital will offer one of the largest Neonatal Intensive Care Units in California,” said Terry A. Belmont, chief executive officer, Miller Children’s Hospital and Long Beach Memorial Medical Center, in a recent press release.
“This gift will help us fulfill our mission of saving and improving the lives of the children and families we serve.”
The expansion aims to be completed in 2009 and will greatly improve the efficiency and quality of care for one of only two children-specific hospitals in Los Angeles County.
