Two adjacent Long Beach Unified schools were on lockdown for several hours Wednesday morning as police searched for two thieves who stole bikes from one of the campuses.
At around 9:30AM, Long Beach Police Department officers were called to Stanford Middle School in Los Altos in response to two male suspects who were stealing bikes on school grounds. The suspects fled the scene, and according to Lisa Massacani of the LBPD, both Stanford and Prisk Elementary next door were secured.
“The suspects were located in the backyard of a residence on the 5700 block of Vernon Avenue and taken into custody without incident,” Massacani said.
The bikes were recovered and the schools were removed from lockdown by early afternoon.
