To ring in the New Year next week, Bixby Knolls residents have organized a celebration to be held at the Long Beach Petroleum Club at 3636 Linden Avenue for a family-friendly night of fun, according to a press release issued by Blair Cohn of the Bixby Knolls Business Improvement Association.

There will be snacks, drinks, and dancing to live music provided by the MP Triple J Band. All proceeds will go to the BKBIA to help pay for the Big Red Bus rental fee during First Fridays art walk events.

While we’re on the topic, you may be interested to know that plans to celebrate 2010’s arrival in downtown Long Beach are generating quite a bit of buzz.

World-renowned extreme sports athlete Travis Pastrana will jump his speeding Subaru rally car off of the Pine Avenue Pier, aiming to land on a barge floating in the ocean. The jump will shatter a Guinness World Record, and the event will be broadcast live on ESPN. Media outlets around the nation are taking notice, and Long Beach’s downtown skyline will be on full display that evening. Here’s a photo of Pastrana conducting a practice run, provided by RedBull.com.

The streets of downtown will also be closed off to create a Times Square-esque party vibe for the big ball drop. We’ll have more information as we get closer to the big night.
