Long Beach’s famous Bixby Park Bandshell, once a hotbed for community discussion and activism, will be officially re-opened Saturday with a ceremony and party in the park from 10:30am – 2:00pm. There will be live music, local vendors, family activities, theatre performances, vintage cars, antique fire trucks and free food.
City Councilwoman Suja Lowenthal is presenting the ceremony and played a large part in the bandshell’s restoration.
“Historically, the Bixby Park Bandshell was a place where residents of Long Beach came together to discuss pertinent issues of the day,” Councilmember Lowenthal said. “I am very pleased to be able to re-connect our residents with such a significant landmark that served as the community’s hub since the 1920’s.”
Bixby Park is located at 130 Cherry Avenue. Admission is free.
