After Day One of a rainstorm that is expected to last at least through this Saturday, the city of Long Beach has issued a health warning advising that ocean waters are not safe to enter due to trash, debris and toxins that the storm will wash up.

The city’s release reads:

“Due to the significant rainfall this week, City Health Officer Dr. Helene Calvet has issued a public health beach advisory for the City of Long Beach. All persons are urged not to swim in local waters for at least 72 hours after the last rainfall. After significant rainfall (0.10″ or more), high levels of bacteria from storm drain run-off and rivers will pollute the ocean waters. This advisory is in effect for up to three days after the last rainfall.”
