UPDATED OCT 17 11:26AM | Police say that the woman who was killed yesterday morning after being hit by a car has been identified as a 51 year-old female transient. 

The driver of the vehicle, a 2007 Kia Rio, was identified only as a 55 year-old Huntington Beach resident. Uninjured in the accident, he was questioned at the scene and released. No charges are pending.

UPDATED 11:30AM | Westbound PCH lanes are no longer closed, according to Lisa Massacani of the LBPD. 

ORIGINAL 10:30AM | All westbound lanes of Pacific Coast Highway were closed early this morning after a female pedestrian stepped into the roadway and was killed by an oncoming car. 

At about 5:40AM, Long Beach Police Department were called to the area of PCH near the 710 freeway and discovered that the victim had been fatally struck by a compact car traveling westbound on the major thoroughfare.

“She was pronounced deceased at the scene,” said Lisa Massacani of LBPD.

As of 8AM this morning, the westbound lanes of PCH were closed at San Francisco Avenue, as was the onramp to the northbound 710 Freeway.

An investgation is also underway, police say, and neither the names of the pedesdrian nor the driver (who remained at the scene) are being released until it is complete. This is the city’s second vehicle-versus-pedestrian fatality in less than three days.
