A small fire at Jordan High School occurred today during construction of a new classroom building, but was extinguished before seriously endangering students or staff, according to Long Beach Unified School District (LBUSD) officials.
The brief fire happened at approximately 4:00PM during a process that uses torches to melt adhesive when roofing is installed, according to the Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) and LBUSD spokesman Chris Eftychiou.
“The fire was extinguished and completely under control within minutes, and there was no danger to students or staff, who were kept away from the area,” Eftychiou said in an email to the Post.
The LBFD confirmed that no structural damage was caused by the fire, while a 20 feet by 20 feet area of roofing material was burned.
Today’s roof work is part of a multi-year reconstruction project the high school is undergoing, Eftychiou said.
