According to a press release issued by the City of Long Beach yesterday afternoon, 2H Construction owner Sean Hitchcock received an emergency permit from the California Coastal Commission to cap any exposed land on the wetlands property at Loynes Drive that Hitchcock recently purchased and bulldozed without proper permits. The permit authorizes the import of 1,000 cubic yards of dirt due to orders from the California Integrated Waste Management Board and the South Coast Air Quality Management District.
From the release:
Mr. Hitchcock said he will start the work on Monday, April 13, and should be finished by the end of the week. A City Inspector will monitor the work to ensure the work in compliance with all applicable regulations.
The permit was issued after 2H Construction bulldozed the land three weeks ago, exposing a buried landfill and causing concern about effects on air quality. The District Weekly‘s Dave Wielenga reports that elevated levels fo methane have been detected since the grading occurred.
