A woman was hospitalized with major injuries Tuesday night after a vehicle crashed into a bus stop where she’d been sitting at 10th Street and Cherry Avenue, according to authorities.

The crash occurred at around 8:40 p.m. when a driver drove through a parking lot, over a sidewalk and then across Cherry Avenue before hitting the bus stop, Long Beach Police Department said.

Before rushing her to the hospital, Long Beach Fire Department personnel had to free the woman, who’d been pinned by the vehicle when it crashed into her, police said. Police said the woman suffered wounds to her lower body, but they didn’t immediately have details on how badly she was hurt.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, according to police, who said driving under the influence does not appear to be a factor in the crash.

The investigation is ongoing, the LBPD said.
