2:59pm | The second of three workshop events to offer economic development advice to local businesses will be held on Thursday evening, hosted by the Regional Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and featuring several expert speakers.

The topics center around the results of a survey handed to businesses along the Anaheim Street corridor, many that complained of increased crime and difficulty in the economic recession. The workshops will offer advice on marketing, signage, security, social media, taking advantage of government assistance and many more advantages.

The meeting will be held at Taco Loco at 1465 Magnolia Avenue from 11:30am-1:00pm tomorrow, and guests include Michael Conway of the Long Beach Public Works department, Cathy Alvarez-Ortize of the Internal Revenue Service on the topic of “Tools to Succeed,” and Jay Torres of United Healthcare to discuss health benefits for employees.

The third and final workshop will be held next Thursday, same time and place, with District 1 City Councilmember Robert Garcia and Seyed Jalali of the Long Beach Redevelopment Agency.  Please RSVP at (562) 212-2889 or via email at [email protected].

The workshop is free to businesses located in Long Beach City Council districts 1 and 6, and $20 otherwise. They are held in partnership with other local business organizations like the Long Beach Black Chamber of Commerce and the Cambodian American Chamber of Commerce.

“You usually have one chamber speaking for themselves,” Sandy Cajas told the Long Beach Post today. “We decided to come together and make a difference. Now we have an international corridor empowered by economic development.”

Verizon and the California State University Long Beach Center for Community Engagement are also project sponsors.
