In the year and a half since Beachwood BBQ and Brewing opened in Downtown Long Beach, it has solidified itself as a formidable force in L.A. County’s growing craft beer scene, not only tapping rare kegs from around the world–much like its original location in Seal Beach–but also producing a wide selection of house beers, which continue to win coveted medals at national and international beer competitions.

Earlier this month, Beachwood added yet another accolade to its growing list: Best Brewpub in Southern California, a title that means the Long Beach hop heaven placed above destinations like Pizza Port in Solana Beach, Alpine Brewing Company near San Diego and TAPS Fish House and Brewery in Brea.

Beachwood was named SoCal’s top brewpub as part of RateBeer’s annual “Best” list, a recognition of exellence in the worldwide beer community compiled and released by the beer rating and review website, RateBeer.com. It was the only establishment in L.A. County to be named. Beachwood BBQ in nearby Seal Beach, however, took the spot of Best Restaurant for beer in the region–a title it has held for most of its six years in business–and El Cerrito Market in Corona earned Top SoCal Bottle Shop.

Winners are determined through beer and restaurant reviews done on RateBeer.com and by the personal experiences of who the website calls “RateBeer extra-regional representatives.”
