The Belmont Shore Business Association is promoting community activist Justin Rudd’s Belmont Shore Sidewalk Chalk Art Contest. The event attracts seasoned and emerging artists, as well as participants from local high schools & universities.
This 7th annual event will “showcase the works of artists who will use chalk as their medium, and the sidewalks of Belmont Shore as their canvas,” according to a statement from the BBSA.
The event is Saturday, Oct. 23 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. $1,000 in cash prizes will be awarded. Judging starts around 3:30pm, with awards, presented by Rudd and his nonprofit Community Action Team, at 4 p.m. To enter and learn more, visit justinrudd.com or e-mail [email protected].
A Young Artist Art Contest presented by Long Beach Art Teachers from Naples, Lowell, Fremont, Rogers and Wilson High School is also scheduled. Young artists will showcase their art inside Belmont Shore businesses, and prizes will be awarded to each grade based on originality, technique and composition. The event takes place at 3:00pm at Covina & 2nd Street.

A street closure will be in effect at Covina and 2nd Street from 11:00am-2:00pm for kids arts and crafts, face painting, drawing, painting and live entertainment from local middle and high school students.
