More than 400 used cars of all makes and models from dealers throughout Southern California will soon be available to shoppers during the inaugural Long Beach Used Car Tent Sale.
The three-day event, scheduled for May 15-17, was set up by City Councilwoman Stacy Mungo, who reached out to car dealerships from Long Beach, Cerritos, Signal Hill and Mission Viejo in an effort to be more business-friendly.
“Thanks to the leadership of Councilwoman Mungo, some of the biggest names in the automotive industry are coming together in support of this unique Long Beach event,” Mayor Robert Garcia said in a statement.
Previously, the city saw an exodus of car dealers that ended up in other Southern California cities such as Cerritos and Tustin, which developed regional automobile shopping centers.
“Cities compete for high sales tax revenue items…and as such neighboring cities to the city of Long Beach have aggressively pursued big ticket items like car dealerships and home depots,” event spokesman Todd Leutheuser said. “But I think this is [Mungo’s] attempt to send a signal out to the community at large that the city is open for business.”
Event sponsor LBS Financial Credit Union will be on-hand to offer qualified buyers rates and terms only available during the event, organizers said.
“As demonstrated by our new incentive programs, business collaborations and development opportunities, Long Beach leaders have truly embraced a business focus,” Mungo stated.
Depending on the success of the event, the community may see its continued annual presence, according to Leutheuser.
“[Mungo] worked diligently with the team at special events and the city manager’s office to make this a very convenient opportunity for the local car dealerships to participate in,” Leutheuser added.
The event will be held Friday, May 15 from noon to 8PM, Saturday, May 16 from 9AM to 8PM, and Sunday, May 17 from 10AM to 5PM. It will take place on the corner of Conant Street and Lakewood Boulevard, near the Long Beach Airport. Visit the website for more information.
