Shooshani Developers LLC announced Monday that construction has started on “The Place at The Streets”, the 20-unit mixed-use development going in across from the former Walmart on 5th Street and Promenade North.

Construction fencing now surrounds the site, with work to continue through spring 2019 on the structure designed to provide additional housing and new retail space in downtown Long Beach. The site is located within the 350,000-square-foot district, The Streets, which is undergoing a repurposing including the moving in of new businesses, restaurants and specialty shops.

Last year, Retail Design Collaborative and Studio One Eleven opened in March followed by King Buffet, Romeo Chocolates, The Plant Junkie and Creative Crepes. The Thickshake Factory and Burgerim opened this year.

“Along with repurposing and enhancing of the shopping center we are repositioning the new district to offer a distinct resident, guest and employee experience that reflects and serves our evolving Downtown,” Tony Shooshani, managing member of Shooshani Developers said in a statement.

“The Downtown area is now flourishing with new activity and growth. We are making every effort to create the right balance of work, eat, live and play at The Streets that will enhance the existing surroundings and appeal to today’s audiences,” Shooshani stated.

Other businesses in varying stages of opening at The Streets include Habibeh, Loose Leaf Boba Company, Party Monkey, Pinot’s Palette, Poki Cat, Portuguese Bend Distillery and Table 301.

The Streets are located in downtown Long Beach between Third Street, Sixth Street, Pine Avenue and Long Beach Boulevard. For more information, visit the Facebook Page here.
