Former Californian governor George Deukmejian was honored with Long Beach State (CSULB)’s Nell and John Wooden Ethics in Leadership Award for “eptimozing the spirit [of ethics].”
Presented to Deukmejian at the Hyatt Regency in Long Beach during a business ethics seminar, his work as governor from 1983 to 1991 was highlighted in establishing a “positive business climate in California [that brought to the state to lead the nation] in major new business expansions, growth in small business, and the creation of nearly three million new jobs[.]”
“With dignity and sincerity as his guiding lights–in his role as governor, as well as throughout his life–George Deukmejian has become a positive role model for public servants, attorneys and business leaders across the country,” said Michael Solt, director of the Ukleja Center for Ethical Leadership and dean of CSULB’s College of Business Administration. “We are honored to have had an opportunity to recognize his exponential leadership influence with this award.”
The award’s namesake is follows the Woodens’ dedication to practice ethical leadership and people who embody integrity when in roles of power. John Wooden was given the first award in 2009 before he passed away at the age of 99 in 2010.
